INTERVIEW WITH WANDA KUJACZ

There is something distinctly magical and provocative about Parisian artist Wanda Kujacz's creations. Each digital masterpiece she creates to me is like a silent story open to interpretation. Despite the language barrier Wanda has kindly shared with me a little insight into her world.

Can you tell us who Wanda Kujacz is?

Oh my ! Don't you have a more difficult question ???
Really hard to answer as I still ask myself quite every day...

Today I answer I am a girl (or woman sometimes !) who intends to show her worlds through images and films because I appreciate touching emotionally my spectators, I enjoy calling their attention on "me" and I use my art creation to shout I AM WANDA KUJACZ !!!

Can You tell us a little about your background?
I have always been a very very good pupil then student. I could say an over-good pupil !
Teachers thought I would become an engineer or Minister (!!! it's true !!) or something like that !!!
When I was young and such a clever student, I always found the ones who were practising arts like donkeys ! I thought they were doing art because they were unable to do anything else ....
So I began clever studies to become someone important in life, and quite suddenly I stopped the studies, became ill, and then went to a movie school in Paris, where I learned directing films, and I directed short films... some met big success and have been shown in festivals all around the world and on TV (french one and foreign one) .... For the moment, there are no donkey ears on my head... I keep on watching carefully .... :)

I can understand that point of view, but you are certainly no donkey! Your work is amazing. When you feel the urge to create can you explain the process that takes place?

I first become nervous and no more sympathetic !!! because I have something in mind and I know that till I won't do it I will be unease, nervous... and for me it's hard to dive in the building of an image. I mean it's hard to quit the real world !!! difficult and easy by the same time, and when i have done the first steps, I forget everything... time, anger, sounds, meetings, ... it really is a diving, and when the work is done, I sometimes feel satisfied, happy to share it through my blogs and online gallery's, that helps me to stay so alone with my work !!!! and quickly feel the need to build another world, a new image... So I'm hardly quiet ... :)

The whole creative process sounds wonderfully intense. Your images are inspired by fairytales, mythology, colours, music and stories from your Polish grandmother. Can you share with us the story behind one of your pictures?

The most important story behind my pictures is the one that arises in your mind.

Can I ask who your favourite artist are and what you are currently listening too?

Impossible to choose only one. I spend a lot of time on the web watching what the others are doing. This fascinates me and encourages me to do always my best. The thing I appreciate and learn from the others is above all the liberty in the creation, I mean how far they can go in imagination, and also the work... work and work.... it's a work not only a time spent by dreaming :))
Now I'm fond on listening to electronica music such as Craig Armstrong, Jay Jay Johanson, ... It's also inspiring to listen to Amiina, Coco Rosie, Edison Woods, .... should do a clip for the artists I like one day, no ?

What five items couldn't you live without?

And finally, what advice would you give to aspiring artists?
